Some evenings are special. Last week, I had the honor of appearing as a guest on Wormatia TV for the first time. Together with Florian Natter, the chairman of Wormatia Worms, and longtime Wormatia supporter Helmut Weick, I got to answer questions from host Markus Wolsiffer. An evening that will remain unforgettable for me, not only because of the fascinating topics but also because of the special location.
In my old elementary school
The premises of the Offener Kanal Worms (OK Worms) have a very special meaning for me: they are in the basement of my old elementary school. It was quite an interesting feeling to be discussing my football club in the place where I once learned my ABCs. The atmosphere was very relaxed and warm from the start, so I never really felt nervous.
The conversation with Florian and Helmut was incredibly enriching. Markus Wolsiffer confidently guided us through a whole range of topics currently on the minds of fans and the club.
My view of the season
Of course, I was also asked for my personal assessment of the season that had just ended. I tried to explain my perspective as a fan—the highs, the lows. I was also able to describe my impression of the coach and how I perceived his work from the stands.
Everyone agreed that the season should be put behind us quickly. However, people were also reasonably satisfied with how the second half of the season went.
In terms of ambition, the club needs to return to the Regionalliga. That won't be easy, but the club has the means to do it.
Sustainability at Wormatia
One topic was (once again) the new roof at the stadium. An investment in the future was made here by equipping the roof with solar panels.
Combined with an energy storage system, this turns the stadium into a fully fledged photovoltaic installation. Especially at a time when energy prices continue to rise and climate change keeps us on our toes, it is important for a football club and a city to make a meaningful contribution to sustainability as well.
For me, a great idea and implementation.
The role of artificial intelligence in the live ticker
A topic particularly close to my heart was also part of the show: the integration of artificial intelligence into our live ticker. I really enjoyed explaining how we use modern technologies to make reporting even better and faster for the fans. A great example of how volunteer commitment and technical innovation can go hand in hand.
A great experience
The direct exchange with the club chairman, who is so close to the team, and with Helmut Weick, who can share anecdotes and knowledge from decades of Wormatia history, was truly enriching. These are exactly the moments that make being a fan what it is: the conversations, the different perspectives, and the shared passion for the club.
It was an all-around successful evening and an experience I wouldn't want to have missed. A big thank-you to the entire team around Markus Wolsiffer for the invitation and the wonderful organization!
