Short report on the 35th meeting of PHPUG Rheinhessen

On November 11 in Mainz, it was time... the 35th meeting of PHPUG Rheinhessen took place at the offices of my employer netz98. This time the topic was "SPL". Anyone who works with PHP for long enough will eventually come into contact with the Standard PHP Library.

A while ago we had a really great presentation on iterators, and this evening it was the turn of data structures. Through live coding, we took a close look at every structure. The lively exchange of ideas is always a lovely thing about the user group. There was also criticism of the naming and the internal C implementation of the SPL classes, leading to a controversial discussion about whether it would be better to replace every class with userland code.

After the data structure presentation, Jan Unger showed how to work with SplEnum and how these can sometimes serve as a replacement for value objects.

At the end of the session, there was also a spontaneous talk by Marco Pivetta, who showed us an experimental second-level cache in Doctrine.

As always, it was another lovely evening, and this time it was well attended too. I am already looking forward to the next event.
