Freemind on 64-bit Ubuntu

For anyone having trouble starting Freemind on Ubuntu, here is the "trick."

  1. Create the file freemindrc under ~/.freemind.

  2. Copy the following content into it:

    export PATH=/usr/lib/jvm/ia32-java-1.5.0-sun/bin:$PATH
    export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/ia32-java-1.5.0-sun
    export LIBXCB_ALLOW_SLOPPY_LOCK=1

  3. Install the ia32-java-1.5.0-sun VM.

    aptitute install ia32-sun-java5-bin

Freemind should now start.
