As a programmer, you cannot get by without a suitable database tool.
If it also needs to connect to different databases and run on Linux, then, to quote Mr. Stromberg: "Well, then your options get pretty tight."
Fortunately, just such a database tool exists: Aqua Data Studio from Aquafold. Until now, Aqua Data Studio was available free of charge for noncommercial use. But that has changed since version 6.0. Since I use this program to earn money, however, it is only right to buy a license. So I quickly pulled out my credit card and bought the software. You have to shell out a mere 315.50 euros + 59 in taxes (thanks, Mr. J. W. Busch) to obtain a license. On the other hand, an update (a one-year subscription) then costs only 35%. Right, enough advertising...
As I said, the tool is very useful. The license also includes email support, which I immediately made use of because of a Java problem. After a few emails from Worms to San Jose, California, and back, we (myself and an Aquafold programmer) tracked down the problem. Ubuntu/Java 1.6 and Aqua Data Studio 6.0.20 do not seem to get along very well. After switching the Java runtime on my Ubuntu system, Aqua Data Studio ran like a charm. For anyone who encounters similar problems with the new Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn, here is the solution:
sudo apt-get install sun-java5-bin cd /etc/alternatives sudo unlink java sudo ln -s /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/bin/java java
Then, for Aqua Data Studio, do not start the shell script "datastudio-bundled.sh," but the regular "datastudio.sh."
