At Meet Magento India 2022, I had the opportunity to give the talk ddev – Awesome PHP / Magento development environment.
Since I think ddev is great and makes getting started with Magento development much easier, I decided to publish an example demo project.
What do I need to do?
-
Generate Magento installation keys in your Magento account.
See here -
Add the Magento keys to the configuration.
Open the file~/.ddev/global_config.yaml.
Add the following underweb_environment:web_environment: - MAGENTO_REPO_USERNAME=<public-key> - MAGENTO_REPO_PASSWORD=<private-key>
-
Clone the project
-
ddev start
The Magento community is currently working on a mirror of the Magento source code. The code will then be installable via Composer packages.
Once that is available, I will adjust the demo. Steps 2 and 3 will then disappear from the setup, making installation easier for newcomers.
Can I use the demo for my own projects?
Agencies or freelancers are welcome to use the demo as a basis for real Magento development projects.
In that case, you should delete the .git directory and move the code into your own repo.
Of course, the project name can also be adjusted accordingly using ddev config --project-name=<mein-projekt-name>.
