Updated content management for Magento 2

This week there was what I consider a really great announcement from Magento. They announced the acquisition of the technology behind a well-known Magento extension that offers convenient CMS functionality. Funnily enough, we at netz98 were just evaluating this module. Personally, I think the features are great. Magento had not added anything new in the CMS area for a long time. Competitors such as Shopware were able to score points here, particularly with content-heavy B2C shops, which was also clearly reflected in market share.

The Empire strikes back, you could say. But we are on the side of the good guys, after all.

I tested the CMS as part of an evaluation and do not want to withhold a few impressions. The CMS integrates directly into Magento 2's WYSIWYG editor. This also makes it possible to use the CMS features for product or category descriptions. That is a great thing to start with.

It is incredibly easy to use via drag and drop. In Magento 2, the integration has been implemented cleanly using the new UI components. Among other things, images, videos, or product data can easily be integrated into the CMS.

As you can clearly see in the image, you are not limited in your design choices. Structural elements can also be defined to handle layouts in columns.

Images can be uploaded conveniently.

YouTube videos are easy to integrate too. An appropriate preview is also generated.

Extending it

The CMS can be extended with your own components (blocks). To do this, you can simply add to the existing element list through a form with a click.

In the form, you can then select a block and a suitable template for it. This makes it easy for developers to integrate more complex solutions into the CMS as well. As a developer, you only need to deal with the individual content element.

I can also recommend the following links:

The solution will probably only be available for Magento 2 Enterprise Edition. It is already compatible with the current Magento EE 2.1, including Content Staging. I would be interested to know what you think of it all. Please leave a comment.
