At Linux World, Linus commented on the new Windows Vista in this article.
In Linus' own words: the excessive hardware requirements will cause more people to switch to Linux!
We can only hope that Linus is right. But I will not be trying it out on my computers. Windows Vista is not going on my hard drive. Having to work with it eventually (perhaps at work) is enough.
To everyone who, even after all these years, still cannot resist installing a new Microsoft operating system: wait until the next "service pack" is out!
Anyone interested in more detail about Windows Vista should read the article on Wikipedia. The section on "Cooperation with intelligence agencies" is particularly interesting.
Thomas Baumgärtner of Microsoft is quoted as follows:
"There is no backdoor of any kind in our programs."
That brings a few other sayings to mind:
Norbert Blüm: Pensions are secure.
Hebert Zimmermann (head of state of the GDR): No one has any intention of building a wall.
